The Daimler SP 250 is a sports car which was built by British manufacturer Daimler in Coventry from 1959 to 1964.The SP250 was originally known as the Daimler Dart, then renamed the Daimler SP 250 after a challenge by Chrysler.  Launched at the 1959 New York Motor Show, and its greatest success was in the North American market.

     It had a Mono-glass body, four-wheel Girling disc brakes, and a 2.5-litre Hemi-head V8 engine designed by Edward Turner. The car was described as a 2+2.   Jaguar bought Daimler (Company) in 1960,  They brought out the B-spec version with extra outriggers on the chassis and a strengthening hoop between the A posts. There were also other detail improvements.  2,645 were produced in total (all specs).  Jaguar built a prototype replacement (known as the SP252) with a neater body style but decided not to proceed with production.

THIS CAR's HISTORY (History from Previous owner's Notes & Logbook):

     This Daimler SP VIN # 100284 – History: The 1961 Daimler SP250 VIN# 100284 (Type B) was originally White and sold in 1960 by (?unknown?) Jaguar-Daimler Dealership, believed to be located in Wisconsin or Canada. The car was sold to a second owner (name; signed illegible) confirmed by RSG below. {Deduced from Trade in paperwork from the 1966 WI – MVS attached.} The Daimler SP #100284 was then Traded in as Used (WI MVS; for a Mercedes Benz 300), in 1966, at Reimschuessel's Sport Car Garage (RSG), in Wisconsin owned and operated by Bert Reimschuessel. {Note: see letter to Carl Christiansen and RSG’s Grace, letter}. In 1966 the Daimler SP # 100284 was sold ‘Used’ (still a streetcar) by Bert Reimschuessel (Dealer) and was purchased by Mark Mattison of Kiel, Wisconsin, who is believed to be the 2nd Owner. Mattison retained the RSG Shop to convert the Daimler SP # 100284 to a Road Race car in some time between 1968-1970 after Mattison returned from Viet Nam and a Sunbeam Tiger rear end was installed. It was also painted “Yellow” during the road race conversion and Bert performed as Mattison’s Service & race-prep mechanic (see Letter; to C. Christiansen by former RSG employee Grace Gadzinski).

    The Daimler SP # 100284 was raced by Mattison, (Believed Originally at Elkhart Lake raceway, see photo of Yellow car with ELK sticker) because it was closest and Reimschuessel prepped the car for races) from 1970-1975 in the (?Race Group?, letter to R.A.)

1970-75 ELKHART , WI, Road America, Unknown Dates by Mattison (no Logbook).

     Then Mattison &/or the car moved to, and raced in, California. {Note: During the Huffaker rebuild (see below) the following stickers were found on the original rollbar, these were documented by Huffaker (see photos) but the entry stickers were destroyed when the original rollbar was replaced and car rebuilt in 2000};

1978 Lion Country autocross WSSCC, Orange County, 1978 Matison (no Logbook)

1979 Monterey Historics Rally, HMSA, 1979 Matison (no Logbook)

1979 Second annual Portland Road Race, HMSA, 1979 Matison (no Logbook)

1982 Portland Road Race, HMSA, 1982 Matison (no Logbook)

1982 Westwood Vintage, BCVDA, 1982 Matison (no Logbook)

     The # 100284 Daimler SP entered Monterey Historics, HMSA vintage event in 1982, but did not Compete and as was retired when the engine’s Crank bearings spun in a trial qualifying lap (as told to Carl Christiansen by Auction Co., upon his purchase). The car was either ‘Stored’ or ‘Raced’ in unknown locations for the next 14 years??????? At some point the Daimler SP # 100284 car was repaired to running condition and resurfaced in Incline Village, NV in 1996 when it was purchased from a California Race Car Auction by Carl Christiansen from Nevada, in great disrepair. At this time the car was British Racing Green over original colors, used Dunlop wheels and was Registered & Titled to be ‘able’ to drive on the road, but, it had race safety equipment and a wide single hoop rollbar (see picture at Sears Point). After attempts to drive in a Hillclimb proved the car unreliable, in 1999 Carl Christiansen commissioned HUFFAKER-QVALE Racing of Sonoma, California to rebuild the entire car for Vintage Road Racing.

     The Entire body was frame-off rebuilt, re-welded, gussets were added to stiffen the chassis, Heavy Duty Spindles and the existing Sunbeam Tiger rear end was rebuilt. The Engine was completely rebuilt (oiling improvements made) and the entire racecar was totally rebuilt for Vintage Competition, see Huffaker receipts of over $80,000 invested in the total rebuild of the car. At the time of the rebuild it was confirmed that the car was originally White, had a bad repaint over with Yellow (so it was yellow some time between 1968 - ‘70 as confirmed by Gadzinski from Reimschuessel's Sport Car Garage) and then finally repainted British Racing Green on top (unknown date).

     Carl had a friend repaint the car at his home around 1998 (see email from "Willys") British Racing Green during the rebuild, reportedly in his driveway.....  A CSRG Logbook #1001147 confirms the car raced by Christiansen in California at the following Venues:

2001 SEARS Point - CSRG Oct 13, 14, 2001 1st Qual, 2nd Feature Christiansen

    After the First race the new Cam flattened. A replacement Cam was installed by Huffaker-Qvale along with a breakin Dyno run along with additional oiling lines to the lifter cover, no issues since.  The Engine generates 225hp.
